Menus
This section describes the functions of each item of pull down menus
allocated in the menu bar at the top of screen.
- New field
makes a new field window.
If a score window is the front most window
among the windows of SBEAT except dialog windows, namely the top window,
and it has a primary selected bar,
the new field window includes one individual of the selected bar.
If a genome editor is the top window,
the new field window includes one individual of the genome just edited.
- New score
makes a new score window.
If the top window is a field window,
it contains the score sequentially arranged with the individuals.
If the top window is a genome editor,
it contains only one bar of edited genome.
It is initialized with empty score if the top window is neither a field window
nor a genome editor.
- Open ...
displays a file selection dialog to choose a file to be opened.
If the file type is Gene or Score, SBEAT opens new
field window or
score window containing the contents
of the file. If the file type is Options,
the option information is loaded into the memory.
The file formats are incompatible with those of older version before SBEAT 3.
- Save
saves genomes or scores into a file. The file type is Gene
if the top window is a field window. The file type
is Score if the top window is a score window.
- Save as ...
displays a file selection dialog to choose or create
a file into which you save genome or score.
- Save as SMF ...
saves scores into a new file in SMF (Standard MIDI File)
format. You can publish this file on the internet adding ".mid" as the
file name extension.
- Save options ...
saves current options into a new file.
- Reset
initializes all of non protected
individuals by random genes in the top field window.
Or, erases notes in all of the bars in the top score window.
- Close
closes the top window. A dialog window appears to confirm
whether you would like to save the content of the window when its changes
have not been saved yet.
- Quit
closes all windows of SBEAT and quits this program.
This menu item doesn't appear when SBEAT is running on MacOS X.
Use Quit SBEAT
at the bottom in the SBEAT menu instead.
- Undo
returns to the previous status.
- Cut
clears up notes in secondary selected
bars of the top score window,
and copies the genome, score and optional information
into the internal memory of SBEAT.
It cannot be shared with any other applications.
- Copy
copies the genome, score, and optional information of
selected individuals of a field window or
secondary selected bars
in a score window.
- Paste
pastes the information in the internal memory into selected
individual(s) of a field window or
secondary selected bars
in a score window.
- Paste option ...
shows a dialog window to select types of option to be pasted.
The checked items in the internal memory are pasted into a
field window,
a genome editor,
or secondary selected bars in a
score window.
- Clear
clears up notes in secondary selected
bars of the top score window.
- Select all
selects all of individuals in the top
field window or all of bars in the top
score window.
If all of individuals or all of bars are already selected,
all of them are deselected.
- Genome editor
makes a window of genome editor
to modify the genome of a selected individual in
the top field window,
or the primary selected bar in the top
score window.
- Score edit
has a sub menu to edit the score of a score window.
- Notes up brings up the notes in
secondary selected bars in a score window
into two degrees above the original ones.
- Notes down brings down the notes in
secondary selected bars in a score window
into two degrees below the original ones.
- Shift right shifts a series of bars from the
primary selected bar to the
end of score window to right. The notes in the bar at the tail of score
space will be lost.
- Shift left shifts a series of bars from the
primary selected bar to the
end of score window to left. The notes in the bar at just front of selected
bar will be lost.
- Expand
expands the space of score below by one row, four bars.
- Shrink
shrinks the space of score by eliminating the bottom row.
- Do it again
does the previous generating action once again.
- Next in this field replaces non protected individuals
in the field window into children
in the next generation produced from selected individuals.
- Next in new field
makes a new field window
filled with children of the next generation produced from selected individuals.
- Mutate it
replaces the selected individuals by their mutants.

displays this reference manual on the screen using Apple Help Viewer.
- SBEAT Web site
displays the SBEAT Web site
on the screen using your default web browser.
This only works when your computer is connected to the internet.
